Another great NORC Time Trials is in the books! This was the 5th Time Trial event NORC has hosted, and it came with a lot of exciting changes.
1. We had more rowers (and fans) than ever before! See the photo below of NORC Time Trials I (Fall 2015) vs. the photo of the group at Time Trials V (and we are missing a few in the photo). We had 4 flights, 14 heats, 23 boats and 27 rowers participate. Thank you to everyone who came out to make this event better than ever!
2. We hosted another club at the event! Bayou Rowing Club, from Thibodaux, traveled to New Orleans to participate in the event. They submitted 6 entries and participated in the Hat Race. We had a great time hosting the club and are excited to make it a tradition for the future!
3. We raced 8+s! This is the first time trial event where NORC has been able to put out an 8+...and we put out two! The grand finale of the day was a "Hat Race" where we mixed masters, juniors, men, women, NORC, and Bayou Rowing into random lineups and raced. It was a close race, but the newly acquired Voodoo Vista snuck out the win.
4. We set and broke records! With a strong tailwind, NORC & Bayou Rowing went to town on the record book. See below for results. Yellow represents boats that broke a previous record and blue represents boats the set new records. For the full list of course records, click here.
5. We finished the event with the naming ceremony of 3 boats: The Bayou Navy, The Voodoo Vista, and the Bayou Rougarou. With a quick toast and some champagne poured on their bow's, these boats are officially settled into their new home on Bayou St. John.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered, contributed, rowed, and cheered. We couldn't do it without you!
